"Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm” – Emerson

Are you motivated for success? Let’s start with a checklist of symptoms:

  • You are unhappy with the way you feel, live and/or look.
  • You feel tired, disenchanted, helpless, and powerless to do anything worthy or of significance.
  • You struggle with your finances from day-to-day, count your pennies, ache for the next paycheck, or wonder where it’s coming from.
  • You feel disconnected with the wider world and even the people around you.
  • You are fed-up with the mundane routine(s) of your life.

If you are feeling any (or all!) of these symptoms, then you probably aren’t properly set up to be motivated for success. But don’t worry, we are here to help. If you are already generally satisfied with the way things are going but would like to further improve, read on. As we at PIH often reiterate, you can always improve!

Motivation

We all know what it means, and how important it is. Motivation is the set of reasons; the determinants of intent and effort; the stimulus or incentive; that creates a need or desire and causes one to behave in a particular manner. A particular definition we liked the most is that motivation represents the ability to embark on an endeavor and persevere even when the going gets tough. At PIH, we believe that when the going gets tough, the tough gets going!

Motivation literature largely concur that motivation can be considered as extrinsic or intrinsic. Extrinsic motivation comes from other people, for example in the form of rewards like praise or money. Intrinsic motivation comes from within and is internal to the person; for example, gratification or a sense of accomplishment. Of course, it can also be positive or negative. Positive motivation can come in the form of a visually improving physique (and people around you telling you how good you are looking these days, or how much better you look than before) encouraging you to go to the gym more regularly or more often. Negative motivation can arise from a nasty boss threatening to remove you from your job if you fail to deliver on specific objectives by a specific time.

Although positive (probably some form of reward in store for doing something) and negative motivation (largely fear that drives your delivery) will both likely yield results, positive motivation is definitely the preferred method – our preferred method. Being enthusiastic and interested, feeling the desire to spring out of bed every morning with a pulsating drive to do something is the best kind of supreme motivation you can have! Many top, successful businessmen possess this kind of drive and commonly acknowledge this is what has made them successful, and is what drives them everyday. For Mary Kay Ash, founder of The Body Shop and one of America’s Most Influential Women, her day always began at 5am. She chose to sacrifice an hour or two of sleep to achieve a jump-start on her day. Mary Kay once said that “success came fast because she did not have any time to waste”. Her motivation (for success) drove her to immense success and recognition.

Read Mary Kay’s inspirational book: The Mary Kay Way: Timeless Principles from America's Greatest Woman Entrepreneur here.

Famous, astoundingly successful people also demonstrate this trait in abundance. Albert Einstein was always motivated to find that next big invention – he slept for 4 hours everyday and even a closet full of suits of the same color and design so that he did not waste any time choosing!

SUCCESS

Motivation and success are inextricably linked. When we speak of motivation, we also talk about being successful. When we motivate ourselves effectively, we always aim to achieve success in our goal(s). Success can be formally defined as the favourable achievement of something desired, endeavored, planned, or attempted.

We have a philosophy at PIH - everyone has or should have his/her own definition of success. Success should measured by what is most important to you as an individual. We believe that an individual’s guiding principle in life should always be HAPPINESS. If you attain whatever makes you happy, you are happy and contented. A politician considers herself to be successful if she wins an election, a school teacher’s definition of success is when all the children in her class pass their exams, a businessman considers himself successful if he makes $1 million a year. Everyone should actively pursue our own happiness in life, and should have a desire to strive to be successful at what is important to us.

At PIH, we advocate Financial Freedom as the ultimate enabler to whatever form of happiness you believe in. It enables you to become free of money concerns, and provides you with the freedom to do the things you like, whenever you like. However, we do recognise that not everyone will be happy if given a million dollars or were freed from paying their bills monthly.

So, ask yourself what makes you happy? And what do you have to achieve to consider yourself successful? If you already consider yourself successful, what can and will make you even more successful? What else can you be successful in or what would you also like to be successful at? Take a look into the resources provided below and give yourself a shot at success:

They can go from feeling despondent to feeling unstoppable almost immediately, if necessary.  The most effective people can get focused in seconds when they have to. This website gives you instant access to hundreds of experts online, with a price per minute charge. For example, you can have access to a range of professional counsellors and medical doctors for an online chat at a price of, for example, $1.79 per minute. Prices range between $1.50 and $3.00.

This translates into $107.40 for an hour’s worth of professional advice, which might sound like a lot of money at first, but if you consider that you are sat in the comforts of your own home it might be well worth your while. In addition, you can choose the preferred duration of your session, and end it whenever you like. If you do actually go to see a professional at their office, they usually charge for a full hour regardless so this is already a cost-effective method.

How to choose an expert? Well the site uses an easy to understand 5-star rating, as well as the number of reviews the expert has below it. Reviews are given by previous customers and you can also read their comments before deciding.
